To Joseph

We spent a fantastic Labor Day weekend tucked away at the foot of the Willowa Mountains in Oregon. We rented a cabin (that was straight out of the 1960s) along with two other families we know. We were right on the river not far from the lake. The best part about this spot had to be all it has to offer families. There isn't any internet or cell phone service, so you actually saw entire families doing stuff together (no daddies left to work on their computers or blackberries). Between the bumper boats and little indy cars, the horse back riding and the swimming pools there was just so much available to keep everyone going. Not to mention all the countless opportunities that nature provided (hiking to waterfalls, fishing and boating). The salmon were swimming up the river right outside our door, there were so many of them that kids were catching them with their bare hands (then throwing them back because they are out of season to actually catch and keep). This is how I imagine family vacations used to be before we became enslaved to our ability to communicate whenever and wherever. I hope to make this a Labor Day tradition. I've posted so many new photos, you will have to go on to older posts to see them all. Enjoy.

Not even a 1/4 of the way there we heard this question

On our way to Joseph, OR and Willowa Lake

The scenery on the way was varied and interesting, lots of farm land and curvy roads through valleys and plateaus. Very different looking from the base of the mountains where we stayed.

Our cabin was located right on Bailey Ln. which of course tickled our little Bailey

Oh Deer!

The deer near our cabins have had so many handouts over the years that they are practically domesticated. We watched as a group of kids got the deer to take Doritos right from their mouths!  Of course we did not agree with their choice of food and encouraged our girls to think of something that the deer might be able to find in nature, we came up with carrots and Livy (with the help of her daddy) found the courage to feed one of our visitors.

Milkshakes and More

our friend Teagan is such a serious little girl when she is coloring (I see a future surgeon)

Teagan and her daddy Todd (this was so cute I had to include it)

While on a walk, Bailey and Livy stopped to feed some fish (rainbow trout no less), while in the midst of feeding, Livy's puppy Scooter decided he wanted take a swim. We discovered the he is mostly just a fluff ball.

On our way back to the cabins we had to stop by the local souvenir shop to buy a shirt for poor freezing, fish-smelling Scooter. Of course it reads "spoiled rotten" what better way to describe a 1/2 poodle 1/2 shih tzu lap dog?

Poor Kiera, 4 molars are coming in all at once, note the drool!

The town of Joseph is named for Chief Joseph, of the Nez Perce Indians. His grave is located at the end of town.

Our Cabin is on the right, across from the pool :)
